April 16th to 22nd, 2015

Choir practice last Thursday - so great to see everyone and to sing with them again! Saturday was the first rehearsal of the massed choir - great fun!  Sunday church was awesome, too - looking from the choir seats to the window above the balcony - so many times, in Moody Methodist, I have seen that window in my mind, draped with the sailboat hanging and hear the hymn "She goes sailing on the wind . . . "
This week, I'm trying to catch up on this blog and re-establish some sort of routine - will get a pool membership one day and start morning swims again - doctor's appointment this morning - probably have a hernia, of all things - ultrasound appointment on Friday.  Funny how coming back to Ottawa seems to equate with all those stodgy, reality things that I have to do - like taxes - gotta get at those one of these days!!
Still - there's choir tomorrow night, massed choir Saturday and Sunday - things to look forward to - and I'm having a blast here, with Sue-Jane and her sister, Judy!

Monday, April 13 to Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Last night, I stayed in Frankenmuth - not far from the Michigan border at Port Huron. Lovely campsite - wish I had had some time to explore, as Frankenmuth is well known as an interesting historical place - but at least I had time this morning to swim in the pool and soak in the hot tub!
Crossing the border was anti-climactic, to say the least!  After all that talk about the new agreement between the US and Canada, and questions about how long I should be staying and whether or not I had to fill out that expensive IRS form, I got a woman border guard who asked me how long I'd been in the States, my licence #, whether or not I had any tobacco, alcohol, or firearms - and then waved me through!  Took all of about two minutes, max!
A short three hour drive later, I pulled into St. Thomas and parked my rv behind Jim and MaryLee's house.  I always feel like I can just kick back and relax there - those two friends make me feel so welcome, and they're so laid back - never any pressure, just good talks and laughs and easy living! I had a short visit - just Monday evening and all day Tuesday, really - neecded to get back to Ottawa in time for Thursday choir practice, so I left early Wednesday morning.
Man. that trip on the the 401 through Toronto to Ottawa is boring!  I guess that I've done it sooo many times that even the things that might have been a tiny bit interesting are totally boring now. It's aways a little weird to drive back into Ottawa - good to park at my friend Sue-Jane's house, though.  We went out for Dim Sum at our cool little chinese restaurant on Somerset Street, which was awesome.  Luanne would have loved the food there.

Awesome quilt MaryLee has!

So interesting - have to show this to Judy W.!

My Birthday!  and Vera Bradley Day!!  I drove the 30 minutes into Fort Wayne to the Convention Centre where the Vera Bradley Outlet Sale was being held.  I was there by 9:50 and the doors opened at 10:00 - and it was Sunday, so no problem getting a parking spot for my rv.  Still, I had to line up for half an hour before getting into the main hall.,  Tables were set up with coloured balloons above them and numbers on the rows - and a brochure was handed out at the entrance with a key to the contents of each table - very well organized, and incredible prices! I had told myself that I would spend only the $100 bill which I had squirreled away in my purse, but by the time I got into the checkout line, I had conceded that maybe I would make $200 my limit . . .  Imagine my surprise when the bill rang up at $98.00!!! Yahoo!  All of my kids phoned in the afternoon - so that was incrediblly special - not a bad birthday, all in all.

Lining up in the hallway

Lots of time for socializing!

Checkout line!

Still checking out . . .

April 11, 2015

Spent Friday, April 10th at the Singing Hills RV Park in Cave City, Kentucky, after another nine hour drive. It was great to see the owners again - this seems to have become my Kentucky spot to stay!  Just a one nighter, though - left this morning and drove on.  Got to TimberLake RV in Huntington, Indiana this afternoon- lovely rv park - would like to stay here for longer some other time!

Small lake stocked with fish, right in front of my rv

Well spaced sites, very level

My father's birthday today - not sure what kind of irony is there - I'm pretty sure he would have been horrified by my current lifestye.
Today I took my leave of beautiful Galveston and headed off on the ferry to the Bolivar Penninsula.  After nine hours of driving, I got to Mobile, Alabama, where I spent the night in a relatively "rustic" site in the Chickasabogue Park. Finding this park was interesting - my GPS was actually dead on, but I had serious misgivings as I drove down narrow city and country streets and lanes!

Bye Bye Texas flag

So long, Galveston and Wolf Island

A great opportunity to check out the top of my rv!

In Mobile - shades of Luanne's palm tree!

I spent the better part of Easter weekend at Luanne's house in Galveston, which was awesome.  Saturday evening, we spotted this pink moon (I'd seen references to it on Facebook that day) - so we stopped by the seawall to try to photograph it.  These pics were pretty much the best I could get with my cell phone - it was spectacular!

The day before I'm leaving, and I finally got a swim in the pool!  The weather has been great for most of the last week, so the temperature of the pool is cool, but definitely swimmable!  Also got into the hot tub by the pool, along with a couple of young boys on spring break.
I spent a lovely evening with my good friend Donna and her husband, Paul Ray, at the Elks' Club, of which he is a member.  We had a delicious steak dinner and then Donna and I helped decorate for the upcoming dance on Saturday. So glad that I got the chance to spend some time with Donna before taking off tomorrow!

It's a week of "lasts"!  Today was the last potluck of the season.  Dora won't run any more until next fall, when the snowbirds come flying back.  We had a barbeque outside by the firepit, beside the minigolf course.  Lots of fun, as usual, with a touch of sad mixed in.
