Driving the Coquihalla highway and through the mountains to Calgary wasn't the challenge I thought it might be - ran into fog, snow, rain, and sun along the route - lots of awesome views of the Rockies! I spent the first night at a Walmart in Chilliwack, where an older gentleman pointed out that one of my mudflaps (on my back passenger side) was almost completely off - just hanging by one screw! I searched for replacement screws in two stores, but no luck - I'll have to get some in Calgary. The next stretch, from Chilliwack to Golden, was the real mountain highway - but nothing like the Top of the World Highway into Alaska! I stayed for the second night in a Husky centre in Golden, which was awesome - amazing view of the mountains through my windows - and good, solid meals in the restaurant. Hilarioius skeletal mannequins of four ladies seated at a restaurant table, waiting for service . . . Rogers Pass was fine to navigate, but I can see why this would be a real challenge in the snow! It's in a wide dip which would fill with snow pretty quickly, I imagine.
I had planned to stay at the Casino in Calgary, but their parking lot is currently under construction, so I found a Passport America rv park near Madden, Alberta - Beaver Dam Golf Course and RV Park. I planned to rent a car, but no Enterprises in the area will pick up there, so the owner of the RV park drove me to Olds, 30 minutes away, to pick up a rental car - and then drop it off a week later!
