Today we drove the Irish Loop - just a highway that skirts around the southern coast of the Avalon Peninsula. Lots of spectacular scenery, small communities. Like most of Newfoundland, the coast is dotted with these small villages, with lots of blank space in between. We stopped for a yummy lunch at the Edge of the Avalon Inn in Trepassey, at the southern edge of the peninsula, then made our way back up the western side, back to our campsite in Roaches' Line.

Turns out to be a very rainy day, so instead of driving the Irish Loop, we spent the day in St. John's, mainly seeing The Rooms, a museum with a view. Unfortunately, the fog eliminated a lot of the view - but then we visited the RC Basilica, which was very impressive. They have a Casavant organ, which the organist played briefly while we were there!
The rest of the afternoon, Rob and I went to the Scotiabank Theatre to see the new Lion King movie, and Helen went shopping in the mall there!

We decided to go to church in Dildo (you know, because of the name 😉) and went to the Anglican church which online research said had a service at 11:00; however, when we got there, there was no service. I finally managed to contact one of the Wardens, and she told me that there was a service going on down the road - but her directions were so vague that we couldn't find it! We went for lunch, instead, to a local cafe/gift shop and had the most delicious chai tea latte made with lactose-free milk. On the way back to the park, we stopped at The Treasure Trove, where Helen and I picked up some Dildo souvenirs. Sunday afternoon, we booked into the RV Park at Roaches' Line, where we'll be staying for a week while we explore the Avalon Peninsula.
