Helen stayed home to do a bunch of organizing (she's really gotten into Marie Kondo, since I told her about Kondo's methods - she's watched some of her tv shows and is implementing a lot of her suggestions - really, really impressive drawers!) while Rob and I went to Norris Point to see the Marine Station - really interesting. We joined a tour and the guide showed us marine creatures in aquariums - fish, shellfish, plants, lobsters, etc.!
On the way back, we went in to Jenniex Heritage House & Craft Shop. Spectacular view and a bank of gorgeous flowers in front of the house. Two rooms in the house are preserved as they would have been in the past (maybe the 1930's or so).
Later, Helen and I drove into town to explore craft and gift shops and just to check out the view at the end of town. It's really interesting to see these little fishing villages, catering a bit to the tourist industry, but still more or less isolated from each other. That's the way this island was settled - settlers came to a point on the island and built homes and livelihoods for themselves. Roads connecting towns are a relatively new thing - like 1950s and 60s. Remember, of course, that Newfoundland joined Confederation in 1949!
