July 20th to 26th

Denali!! We found an awesome place to park, just before Bison Gulch - just a pulloff, about six miles from the village (tourist trap of stores) before the Park entrance.  We drove to the park in separate vehicles (I knew that the others would be wanting to  hike) and ended up taking the 8  hour shuttle bus up to Eilson Center - a dirt road, fairly narrow in the upper half - and we saw wildlife and breathtaking, picture-postcard scenery!
Rob, Helen, JB and Jan went into white water rafting while I went into town, bought souvenirs, and went to the Denali Park Visitors' Center to look around - walked a few paths, etc.  Such amazing views!!
The other group left on the morning of the 25th, to go to Anchorage via Trapper Creek.  I'll stay til Thursday and then follow.  Because we are so far ahead of schedule, my careful money plan is crashing and burning:  we should have been in Fairbanks when my end of June cheque arrived - so I've been going on credit cards and am now pretty much broke until my next cheque on Friday.  So - I'll stay here and conserve money until Thursday - then I'll have money in the bank for Friday.  It's soo not a problem staying here!  I spent most of yesterday clearing and sorting and cleaning inside my rig - about time for this kind of cleanout!  Today I'm at the Black Bear Coffee Shop with my laptop, finally updating my blog, since they have fabulous, free wifi available for their customers!  I plan to tackle the rest of my rv when I'm parked again - although I might try climbing the path on the other side of the road . . .

Our Denali  home!

JB's favourite pose!

Denali would be in the middle of the caribou horns, soaring hundreds of feet up into the clouds!

Evening - or is it morning -  or the middle of the night - in our parking spot

July 16th to 19th

North Pole, Alaska!  How cool is that? We stopped at the main attraction, Santa Claus House, where it's extreme Christmas all year round!

4:30 a.m. sunrise - kind of a misnomer, since the sun never actually sets!  It's weird, going to bed when it's light, waking up with the same daylight . . .

Our Fairbanks home for a few days - yay Walmart!!

A truly amazing waste of time!  A not too bad video, then a room full of large ice sculptures requiring little or no skill or finesse to construct!

Park in Fairbanks

Pioneer Village in Fairbanks - lots of tourist stores and a bit of history.

Cool train around the park, though

Cute little working church inside the park
