Sue-Jane suggested that we go walk through Mer Bleue - and I'm ashamed to say that I had never even heard of those fascinating bog right within the city limits!  We did the walking tour - one could do it in about 20 minutes, although it took us about an hour and a half with lots and lots of time for meditation and just plain gawking.  Wooden walkway throughout, to protect the plants and wildlife - omg amazing!!

Just at the entrance - see how the landscape changes dramatically, once you get on the boardwalk!

First plant photo of many to come!

Sue-Jane sussing out a good shot

Awesome, peaceful but full of life

Yep - I was there

Two painted turtles, just basking in the sun

What are those turtles doing here?  Hmmm . . .

You can just see one of the turtles swimming underwater

Just keep following the tour!

Cottongrass flowers

Explanatory plaque - this is a sphagnum bog

Sue-Jane will do just about anything to get a good shot - and you should see her photos!

Ladies Slipper

More Ladies Slippers - not very many in total, as they're not supposed to like the acidic soil of the peat bog

At the other end of the bog - going back across the water

Out of the bog and onto regular soil!

Tiny chipmunk eyes us warily before disappearing into the undergrowth

End of the adventure
